Tom Kitt, Minister for Consumer Affairs today (Friday 26th March, 1999) welcomed the speedy action taken by the Director of Consumer Affairs following complaints of price overcharging by Tesco.

Minister Kitt said "As Minister responsible for Consumer Affairs I would stress again that it is essential that customers be sure that prices displayed are prices charged. It is imperative that consumers have full confidence in the retail sector"

"Full transperancy in the retail system will be underpinned by the action taken by the Director this week.

I look forward to early confirmation of the remedial action being undertaken by Tesco to rectify the problems which have been highlighted this week", Minister Kitt concluded.
